Early Morning Joy

One morning before school, one of our teachers arrived earlier than the others with her daughter, our student.  She had been telling me about a song that they had found on a CD, “1-2-3-4-5, I Caught a Fish Alive.”  This was a newer and livelier version of an old song that I had been singing with children for more years than I’d like to admit! They had brought in the CD to play “Miss Ellie’s Song” for me.

As soon as the music started, with lively beat and wonderful percussion, this teacher and child started to dance!  There was joy and abandon as they moved to the rhythm of this simple song, the daughter dancing circles around the mom– of course I had to join in!

And in that moment I sensed a lifting of burdens, a sweetness, and the delight of early morning joy.
