Have you ever wondered about the effects of screen time on your children? This article by Nancy Carlsson-Paige is a good summary. “Is technology sapping children’s creativity?”
While most of our children are engaged in screen time for some part of the day, studies have shown that preschoolers are hands-on learners who gain information through interacting with the objects and people in their environment. You can help your children become creative, life-long learners by limiting their screen time and encouraging play with blocks, dress-ups, art activities, cooking, reading books and playing outside (once the depth of snow diminishes!) .
As Carlsson-Paige suggests, “… remembering what we know about how kids learn and grow helps to guide us [as we work to limit screen time]. And our own ingenuity and inventiveness as parents is the best and sometimes most untapped resource of all.”
