After washing their hands for lunch, a group of about 8 lunch bunch kids were sitting on our bike room bench. Down the hall, through closed doors, we could hear the sound of one of their classmates who was leaving school with her mother, and crying.
I said: “Our friend is sad, how about we pray for her?” Everyone closed their eyes and folded their hands and we asked God to comfort this friend and help her to feel better. Then we got up and headed down the hall to pick up our lunches and go back to the classroom.
Without any prompting, each child stopped and hugged the crying one in the hallway, wordlessly, then retrieved lunch boxes and went to the classroom. It was a sweet moment of spontaneous kindness, preschooler to preschooler.
